Dear United States Of America
I pen my thoughts in my pastoral blog to share those things which uneasily reside in my heart. Much of the national conversation are comprised of contradictions that places America on the world stage in a not so flattering light. To the world’s delight, they view America as a nation that will self-implode because we are unable to disagree within public discord. This includes the daily bombardment of news reporting mass shootings or individuals randomly shooting people for superficial reasons and the list goes on. Recently, the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence came to mind – “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The Declaration of Independence states the principles on which our government, and our identity as Americans, are based. What a living powerful document the Founding Fathers constructed from the times in which they lived. I believe all Americans should take a fresh look at this document for by it, we will discern how far we have drifted from the Preamble to the stated Declaration of Independence. The portion where as Americans we are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights….” One thing is evident, America is slowly turning her back on God and we are receiving the just reward. I have no doubt that America was founded on our faith in God and regardless of what they are writing in the history books, in God we trust.
My challenge for us today, is to deeply reflect on 2 nd Chronicles 7:14.
